[edit] Dino Dini

The Ladies Mile

Dino Dini is probably a polymath, being skilled as a game designer, programmer, musician, composer, philosopher, singer and poet. Since this entry was started by Dino Dini, he expects to be accused of being an ego maniac or something, but he (ok I) says (say) that that there is nothing to be ashamed of if one is good at many things, and being good by his (my) definition is 'being able to do something without making a complete ass of oneself'.[1]

Dino has written over 41 songs, can play guitar in various styles and can perform confidently in public. He is also able to play violin and trumpet at least to the degree of being able to do so without embarrasment when the wind is blowing in the right direction. He is working on improving his competence in these two instruments however.

He is also keenly interested in philosophy, physics, the nature of reality, sprituality, navigation of life paths, education and mentoring.

He admires those who help others grow and develop themselves and has a loathing of all forms of oppression towards humnan creativity.[2][3][4]

[edit] Nutter

Dino Dini is clearly a nutter[5]

[edit] Music

Below is a selection of videos from Dino's youtube channel.

[edit] Programming

Dino started programming at 12 or 13, and having been programming for nearly 30 years has become skilled in large number of programming languages, the following being in current use:

  • Assembler
  • C++
  • PHP
  • HTML
  • Unix shell scripting (including Awk and Sed)
  • SQL

Currently he teaches video game programming at NHTV Vocational University in their 4 year Bachelor course in the International Game Architecture and Design (IGAD) faculty of this educational instiution. NHTV itself has some 6-7 thousand students.

[edit] Game Design

Dino started developing games even before he started to program. Having started to develop an interest in electronics at the age of 5, Dino his first attempts at creating games were with electronic construction, including a reaction timer and a noughts and crosses game. However, when home computers became available, he started to work with this technology and designed and developed various non-commercial games before his first commercial transaction when he was 15. Dino has developed video games on the following platforms:

  • Acorn System 1
  • Acorn Atom
  • BBC Micro
  • Atari 400/800
  • Atari ST
  • Commodore Amiga
  • PC
  • Playstation
  • N64
  • Playstation 2
  • XBOX

He has developed many successful games and won several awards in the past. Most significant are:

  • Kick Off
  • Kick Off 2
  • Player Manager
  • GOAL!

[edit] Life path navigation

Most people never design their lives. By this I mean they do not think about the constraints they wish to apply to their existence and then mold some kind of solution around them. Eventually this leads to a muddle, as mess, a lack of purpose, a kind of paralysis. This is what happened to me, to be frank. And then one day I realized that although I am a very good at designing things, I had never designed my life. I researched what design actually meant. I developed a theory that design is simply the management of constraints, and that the choice of which constraints should be non-negotiable is crucial, it defines the framework of our morals and of our method of traveling our life path and our method of searching for what we are looking for. These non-negotiable constraint choices define who we are and how we live. When we have these we can always change them if we find the choices don't work well, but the key point is to do it with integrity, as a conscious decision and not just because it might suit us to ignore them when things get difficult.

Consider a poker player. Good poker players know when to lay down a hand, and if they do and find it was the winning hand, they still are satisfied that they played well because they played according to their strategy, their design and with integrity. The player who, on the other hand, changes their strategy because of emotional, wishful thinking may sometimes get lucky, but in the long run will fail badly.

So it is with business as well. And the creative process of video games. And the design of virtually anything. Lose the integrity of your non-negotiable constraints and you may risk losing everything.

So now I try to apply the principles of design to my own life, but I have found that I can also help others find their way. Yes this sounds like one of those "life management" things. Maybe it is I don't know. But I know it works, and if you feel the need for an assistant navigator on your own life path, get in touch with me, I can probably help. dndn1011 ------at------ googlemail -------dot------ com

[edit] Notes

  1. someone at 86.131.85.251 stated 'which he has never done'; this person claims to have watched over Dino's every waking moment to be sure of this statement, and found Dino's naked form to be distressing.
  2. someone at 86.142.151.18 believes instead that Dino admires those who are Dino Dini and doesn't much care for anything else. Which is odd as I checked with Dino, and he said that this is not correct at all. However Dino wishes to add that he also has a loathing for people who hide behind anonimity (sic), while sniping at others
  3. Thanks to 86.131.95.12 for observance of correct lexical protocols and pointing out that Dino can't spell anonymity, presumably ever, not even in this sentance
  4. Of course, the above should be sentence, not sentance, but Dino can't spell sentence either
  5. Thanks to 87.194.252.219 for adding this entry. Although I am quite prepared to accept the possibility that I am a nutter, for the moment it would seem that this is clear only to IP address 87.194.252.219. I have yet any data to show that 87.194.252.219 is correct in this statement. Perhaps, rather than just dismiss this claim, I wonder if 87.194.252.219 could clarify why it is clearly the case.
